Passing of Seafarers’ House Founder Allan Milledge

With great sadness, we share that Seafarers’ House founder Allan Milledge has passed away.

Allan had the vision, professional expertise and great heart that put things into motion 30 years ago when he worked with the Episcopal Church to establish our mission to seafarers in the rapidly growing port we call home.  He brought on board our first chaplain, Mother Maria Jimenez and our first Executive Director, Rev. David Mesenbring.

I was fortunate enough to work with Allan through the years , whether in his capacity as Board Chair, as President Emeritus or as the mentor and friend that he quickly became.  Many of you with whom we share this news worked with him as fellow board members or as supporters of the mission and would know well his intelligence, his passion, his brilliance and his wonderful sense of humor.  With his passing, we have lost a treasured friend to many of us and to the seafarers of the world.  I have talked with his lovely wife, Cathleen, and have learned that plans for a memorial are still in the works.  Please see below the link to the obituary from  The Miami Herald.

Sympathies  from our entire team extend to Allan’s family and all who cared for this special man.

Lesley Warrick, Seafarers’ House Executive Director
