June 25th is the internationally-recognized Day of the Seafarer since 2011. It’s a day to celebrate, recognize and thank seafarers for their hard work and contributions. The work achieved by seafarers directly or indirectly impacts just about everyone on the planet in a number of different ways. According to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), almost 90% of goods on the planet are transported by sea.
Day of the Seafarer is also a day to shed light on and bring awareness to the specific rights and protections that must be put into place and maintained for seafarers including security and safety measures against piracy and comfortable, safe and health living conditions aboard ships.
At Seafarers’ House, every day could be considered to be Day of the Seafarer. We serve seafarers at Port Everglades in a number of different ways throughout the year both at Seafarers’ House and aboard the ship for seafarers unable to leave the vessels.
