Annual Gala will Benefit Seafarers' House at Port Everglades

Plans are underway for the 2010 International Golden Compass Award Dinner. The annual black tie gala will be held on Saturday, May 1, 2010 at the Hyatt Regency Pier 66 Resort in Fort Lauderdale and will feature a lively evening of dining and dancing with both silent and live auctions. The event this year honors Mr. Adam M. Goldstein, President and CEO, Royal Caribbean International. The Dinner Event Chair is Mr. Michael Y. Hopkins of Crowley Liner Services. The Auction Committee Chair is Ms. Maureen Orts of Holland America Line and Mr. Bill Panoff, Publisher of Porthole Magazine has once again volunteered as live auctioneer.

This annual award dinner and gala is a premier social event for the South Florida business and maritime community. The award honors those who have achieved distinction in the maritime world, whose vocation or avocations have been the sea, and those who have in some significant way assisted seafarers. This annual dinner enjoys the attendance of as many as 500 leaders within our community who gather in support of Seafarers’ House.

Seafarers’ House at Port Everglades is a multi-faith cooperation among Christians, Muslims and Jews as well as labor, business and civic leaders with a mission “to offer refuge, resources, renewal and respect to the maritime community through multi-faith service.” It is open throughout the year as a safe, friendly place where mariners can connect with their families, relax, or get emergency assistance if needed. With the help of its supporters and volunteers, Seafarers' House offers many services including low cost international phone calls, free transportation, Internet access, counseling services, liaison with authorities as well as recreational facilities. Seafarers’ House is the busiest such agency in the world, annually hosting more than 100,000 visits by cruise and cargo ship crewmembers.
